Caber tossing men at work

Several, perhaps six, years ago someone visited to advise that the telegraph pole was unsafe and needed to be replaced. Nothing more was heard until about two weeks ago when two surveyors returned. This time the advice was that the work still might not be done for several years. Since then there have been some pretty fierce gales, but still the pole held firm. How surprising then to receive a phone call yesterday afternoon to check if the pole could be replaced tomorrow (i.e. today).
It proved to be a fascinating and impressive operation. Two guys with two trucks negotiated the narrow lane and trees with overhanging branches to replace the condemned pole. The way they manoevered and positioned their hiab with its claw and auger attachments into the middle of a six foot hedge with such delicacy was amazing. They were also cheerful, tidy, considerate and polite - and they work for BT - who would have thought it?!
