Life through my eyes

Feed me!

I was in the front garden taking some cuttings from the lavender and hydrangeas this afternoon and I could hear a baby bird somewhere.  When I looked up I saw he was by one of our neighbour's cars about 5m away and her kitten was about 25cm behind a baby blackbird!  I quickly set off to rescue it and "escorted" into the cover at the edge of the garden so it wasn't far from its parents.  Our neighbour came out and said he had a broken wing but the vets or RSPCA wouldn't help.  I said I would take him round to our garden so I put him in a box and took him round.  I put some mealworms in the box but it was still too young and wanted me to feed it!

Mr Blackbird came in and went bonkers so we decided to move it into our "mini woodland" and then after a while it crept to the edge and Mum made several trips to feed it.  I can't see it this evening and the cat was on the garden fence but I can just about hear it and the parents are making a right racket so I hope it is tucked away somewhere.  See extras for some of the accompanying images.

When I took it out of the box it sat quite happily in my hands for Mr T to have a look.  Too young to fear humans, or maybe just knew it was being helped. I hope to see it again in the morning.  It hops a bit funny as if it has a bad leg and I think it has fallen out of the nest.
