Not Potatoes

Something Miss Flum had not anticipated in her garden appeared very recently and are quite numerous.

As I have just lent her my fungus identification book for another purpose I can't name them, but I think they are common (possibly scaly) earthball, which are relatively harmless but not regarded as edible.

They have appeared very close to her Crown Imperial Lilies, which each year put on healthy growth then die off, so never flower - I wonder if there is a connection?
