Deer

Mrs madwill and I went to Wentworth Castle Gardens, near Barnsley, for the afternoon.

Recently acquired by the National Trust, it was free for us to get in as we are members but we had to pre-book our visit.

A lot of the formal gardens have obviously suffered from neglect and I am sure there are years of restoration work ahead for NT to return it to its former glory.

Lots of follies (one in extras) and monuments to see and lots of walking. There is an extensive parkland with herds of roe and fallow deer and flocks of sheep. The deer were alert but seemed to tolerate people getting quite close...the path here was within just a few metres of the grazing fallow stags.
