Warrigal Greens

Turns out the woman I encountered yesterday on the Cooks River path was picking warrigal greens, an edible native plant with vibrant green heart-shaped leaves and tiny yellow flowers. They cover an area the size of a decent backyard, with a few bare patches. It was exciting to find bush tucker so close to the city.

Apparently the taste is like English spinach, but with a bit more flavour. Captain Cook’s last meal before leaving Botany Bay was skate and warrigal greens. Some restaurants have them on the menu.

Thanks for hosting Miranda1008.
