At the beach

We decided to get a beach day in before the storm. Despite living a 40-minute drive from the Mediterranean we almost never go to the beach here. But having the sea at the bottom of the road for nine months has made us miss it. S and T recommended La Franqui, where we haven't been for years. It's a pretty place of tree-shaded 1930s seaside villas, a lagoon, and long sandy beaches that are popular with kite- and windsurfers (you'll need to zoom in to see them). See also the extra where beginners practice windsurfing in a few inches of water.

It was busy, but not crowded when we arrived, so we staked out a little patch of physically distanced sand. It was so hot I went straight into the water, which turned out to be lukewarm and only about waist deep, but it was still quite refreshing.

For lunch, we simply headed for the nearest bar and had a meal that wasn't bad at all: pimientos de padron, gambas with aioli, then Caesar salad for me and mussels and chips for S. Then another hour or so on the beach. We could see the clouds building up ominously, and then a very large group of people set up camp right next to us, so we took this as our cue to leave.

... and at home, S glanced at Twitter to see a video of the torrential rain hitting the spot we'd just left. Timing! Here it's about 35C and very muggy; the rumble of thunder has just started, but I'm not convinced we'll get rain..

Edit minutes later: rain.
