Regeneration

Today we went for a drive in the Morton National Park. Large swathes of this park were burnt in the January bushfires, and the Morton fire was one of the two fires that threatened our home, causing us to evacuate briefly.

It’s amazing to see how much the bush is regenerating. On the ground there are vivid green shoots and seedlings everywhere. Trees that at first glance look dead have new leaves shooting in unexpected places.

Regenerating trees at first look strange, a bit stunted and misshapen, their leaves sprouting too close to trunk and branches. But they have survived, and that is hopeful.
