pocketfullononsense

...a million things...

I had commented on another blipper’s entry (looking at you Sheilwill) that there was nothing like sea air, which clearly took root in my brain as I decided that we would be near the sea today.

With the eldest in self-isolation prior to a visit to her “other” grandparents, the band was pared back to myself and the wee ones, so having fed them up and prepped a picnic we headed off.

M’boy flippin’ loves Alan and Mel on Radio 2 on a Saturday morning and was giggling away to their nonsense - which to be fair, was quite chucklesome, particularly for Mel’s rant against “co-dependent lyrics” eg. “when you touch me, I breathe”….

We ended up on the outskirts of Barrow at Roanhead, which for my money is one of West Cumbria’s best kept secrets with miles of sandy beach and plenty of space to blow off some steam. We did ours by running up, down, around and along the sand dunes. Judging by the amount of sand emptied from their trainers prior to re-entry to the car, we could probably start work on creating our own additional land mass.

We moved on to Walney Island for a car picnic and gazing out to sea, guessed at how many wind turbines we could see. Turns out it was 87 and is apparently the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The world’s largest onshore wind farm is the wee one’s bedroom.

Having come all this way and not wanting to return home just yet, we pushed onto South Walney Nature Reserve and for the princely sum of £3 were able to wander around the reserve spotting all kinds of birds, a seal and about a billion colourful caterpillars (see extra), which naturally had to be observed individually over the course of our walk.

The head clearing obviously worked, as I sat back down at the keyboard when we got home and was able to play the piece (complete with hand move) which had got the better of me last night.
