The diversity of onion and leek flowers

Want some striking blooms at the back of any flowers border? Just plant some leeks and onions that were grown last season. They will produce flower spikes that are up to 4 foot tall and 4 to 6 inches diameter.
I do this for the purpose of saving my own seed for next year but get the added benefit of these magnificent blooms which give colour and stature to the border they are planted in. The display is long lived, each flowering spike being in bloom from mid-July till late September. The diversity in blooms in terms of colour and form is amazing with large variations between different varieties. An added plus is that are loved by bumble bees and other nectar and pollen feeding insects.
