View Over Kaiteriteri

Early this morning a friend and I took a walk along some of the tracks in the Mountain Bike Park up in the hills behind Kaiteriteri. There are lovely trees, tree ferns, wetlands and well-maintained tracks up there. The extensive network of tracks are specifically designed and constructed for mountain biking and range from "easy" to very tough. One is even named "Flaming Nora".
Walkers and runners are permitted to use the track system but need to be aware that bikers take precedence.
We took a break at a well-placed seat at a good viewpoint. This image is over-looking the Kaiteriteri bay area. In the foreground is the estuary with the tide busy filling it. In the distance is Kaka Island which abuts Kakapa Point. There was a Maori Pa, or settlement, situated on this point many years ago. The whole area is of great historical significance.
