Trim

Trim’s statue is on a windowsill at the State Library of NSW, behind a large statue of Capt Matthew Flinders (extra). I used to spend a lot of time in the library but only noticed today that Trim was unveiled by a rear-admiral in 1996.

Trim was a ship’s cat. He circumnavigated Australia in 1801-1803, survived a shipwreck and shared Flinders’ exile in Mauritius when he was captured by the French en route to England.

Flinders’ memorial to Trim is on a nearby plaque:

The best and most illustrious of his race,
the most affectionate of friends,
faithful of servants,
and best of creatures.
He made the tour of the globe, and a voyage to Australia,
which he circumnavigated, and was ever the delight and pleasure of his fellow voyagers.

It was tricky getting Trim and Flinders in frame, and I’ve switched the photos.

Right now, it’s time for K’s retirement drinks at the local.

Have a great weekend everyone!
