SILLY SATURDAY - THE ADMIRER STAKES

I know that Sammy Snail has been practising for the One Mile Race, which has been shortened and renamed “The Admirer Stakes” in memory of our lovely Blip friend, who is now cheering them on from up above.

JH Ted and his mates wanted to come and support Sammy and his rellies, Sebastian, Sterling, Susanna, Stuart, Sergio and Solomon - so they were all in their seats well before the 10.00 a.m. start this morning on the opening day of the AOG.

I managed to get an interview with JH Ted who said he was really excited to be here and that he had great hopes for his favourite, Sterling, and hoped that he lived up to his name and had a “sterling race”.  He was also pleased to see that the Alternative Olympic Games were being sponsored for the first time by Blipfoto - as he knew that there would be thousands watching the Games from all over the world.  He said, apparently, they were a great bunch of people and always willing to support less well-known ventures - although Blipfoto was very well known.  That’s what I call true professionalism - the well-known supporting the underdogs.

It was obvious that some of these snails had never raced before, as some of them were slithering backwards, but Harry the Hedgehog soon put them back on the right track and off they went.  They obviously didn’t get the concept of staying in their own lane and often Harry had to amble as fast as he could to get them back in their right lane.  He certainly earned his pocket money today.

It was rather hot because the sun had come up early, but Mr. HCB did a good job holding the umbrella over the race track, whilst I was interviewing so although he isn’t actually a true Blipper, he supports me, so I think that means he is part of this huge Blip family.

Sammy Snail did well and managed to hold on to his lead - you can see him at the bottom right - sadly, however, some of his relatives went rather mad and went over the side of the track and fell so they were disqualified, which meant that Sammy slithered on to win the race.  As he held up the Gold Cup he said, “I am delighted to be holding this cup, given by Admirer’s Family in her memory, and hope that one and all will join in with Silly Saturday on the first Saturday of each month.  Now I’m off to chomp on some of Mr. HCB’s lettuce plants that have gone to seed.”

Sammy also said that he was pleased that so many of his relatives had wanted to take part in the race to honour Admirer and quoted the following, which was certainly the way Admirer lived her life :

“Life is not about winning the race….
     it’s about finishing the race,
          and how many people we can help finish this race;
how we can start being kinder to each other
     because in the end, it may be you
          who needs help finishing the race."
