About to turn

Wide Berth

A quiet evening with the tree frogs and crickets for company. Driving homeward along a wide new street I waited, along with the car in the picture, for these geese to wander across. We weren't impatient; they were the only ones doing any honking.

A productive day with a fair amount of relaxation too. I test drove a car at a dealership in town, liked it quite a bit, and will look around some more tomorrow. It's time to replace our tired old van. And our kids say their friends complain about family cars from 2012 or so. Ha.

Two moments might've made better blips: the first early this morning from my window, where a doe and her two fawns were grazing along the edge of the woods. More accurately, the doe and one fawn were watching the second race pell-mell around the yard, stretched out like a greyhound and leaping over fallen branches. So much energy. The other moment was a drive-through birthday party for a friend whose daughters had arranged this as a surprise. So much fun. People drove past waving, their cars decorated with Happy Birthday signs, or slowed and chatted through their masks. One family blasted some dance music for a minute and waved arms out the windows to a disco tune. The daughters handed drinks and party favors through the car windows.

I will try to catch up tomorrow; am spent at the end of the day.
