Topes

Topes are a fact of life in Mexico. These bumps in the road are used as an inexpensive way to control traffic speed. Entering a small village along the highway, better lookout for topes. Coming around a particularly tight corner, likely to be a tope somewhere. A school zone, topes abound. A busy intersection, topes on roads leading into and out of it. Can't afford a traffic light, use a tope instead. After driving for any length of time, one develops a sixth sense as to where topes are likely to crop up and even then the random tope can still surprise you. That said, topes are almost always announced by signs, but this is the first time I have ever seen such truth in advertising. If you hit a tope too fast, it will indeed become a "pee bump".
