Everyday I Write The Book

Going for it

Hugely pleased for Strider who found out today that he has been accepted to study medieval and early modern history at Christ Church Canterbury as a mature student. TSM cried when she heard the news. You have to know that it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, who loves history with a passion. This is his time. Come next month he’ll be heading East, a modern day pilgrim in search of his own brand of enlightenment. All been a bit of a whirl. But then the whole of this year has been, so why not?

The weather has broken. Sort of. Only 27 degrees as opposed to 34, plus I have my new desk fan so it was all a bit easier working today. The cats are happier too. Lots of short sharp rain showers and a fair bit of thunder.

Just finished reading "Where The Crawdads Sing" which had me gripped to the very end. More importantly it reiterated to me that  today as much as ever, the violence of men towards women is probably the biggest barrier to creating healthy families and healthy communities. Bits of it reminded me of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe; women defying convention and surviving against the odds in the traditional Deep South.

The book is rooted in three main themes: the (mostly bad) behaviour of men; the diversity and beauty of the natural world; and how some people can survive terrible things if they have resilience and one or two good friends. A beautiful book which Reese Witherspoon is allegedly trying to bring to the big screen.

I was given a chocolate tahini pastry by a charming Greek woman today. Delish.
