Fluctuating fortunes

This elegant house is close to the centre of our village but is not really as grand as it looks. It was built in the 18th century and had considerable grounds. However, when we first came to the village it looked very run down. The local council had bought the estate in 1947 and built extensive social housing on the land. Just a few large cedar trees remain to hint at the former glory. They had converted the lovely old house into council flats and it soon looked very shabby. Now I believe it is once more privately owned, although still apartments. Restored almost its former glory, it looks very smart.
Normous did a huge shop in Tesco this morning, I am so lucky that he not only enjoys shopping, but cooking as well!
