Flower Friday

The rain arrived overnight luckily and this morning was damp and grey. It did brighten up a little and was milder, much better for 'doing things'. Took a walk to the other side of town to visit Oldway Mansion built in 1871-1873 as a private residence for Issac Singer of the sewing machine family. The house was closed in 2013. Inside it is designed in the fashion of the Palace of Versailles...I would loved to have seen it. Instead I enjoyed a wander around parts of the 17 acres of parkland and gardens, chatted to several locals and some volunteer gardeners, all very friendly but unhappy that the place, now owned by Torquay council, is falling into disrepair and there is no money for funding. A charitable trust was set up to allow community management of the building, but it fell though and the building was declared unsafe. Such a shame, part of our heritage being lost.
The gardens had some lovely plants, I especially like the huge sunflowers which I have used for today's blip, thanks to Bikerbear....a picture of the house in extras
A very fine mizzle on the walk back. I wonder what tomorrow will be like?....
