Green Bottle Fly

Terrific thunder storms last evening and pretty wet much of today, we seized a short gap in the weather to take Reggie for his first ‘out out’ walk. We just took him around Goldings meadow and he enjoyed looking at the sheep & goats through the fence.

I took the new camera body on the walk to try it out and I think it’s done a good job on this green bottle fly.

I have just read that the larvae of these flies are used in maggot therapy. The larvae are placed on a non-healing human wound, such as an ulcer caused by diabetes, and the maggots consume the dead flesh. Don’t look it up; the pictures are gross.
