War

What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

Kendal war memorial under suitably sombre skies this morning. Although the flags had been hung, no signs that any sort of commemoration service was to take place.

One of the less obvious casualties of the corona crisis, I have a feeling that pretty well all the celebrations planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2, have either been cancelled or drastically scaled back. There are few enough veterans left now, I suspect there will be hardly any by the time of the next significant (80th) anniversary.

It would be nice to think that by the time Remembrance Sunday comes around, we might have been able to ease lockdown a bit further so that the traditional services at the Cenotaph, and around war memorials up and down the country, can take place. We can but hope.
