"I didn't do it, Katydid!"

Dear Diary,

That was one of my grandfather's favorite turn of phrase when I tried to deny doing some little thing when I was a child.  Another one was, "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride."  I came from a family that valued personal responsibility.  My real Katydids have been back a couple of weeks, I've heard their evening songs but hadn't seen one.  Finally one turned up on the feeding table on the back porch.  I know late August is here when they arrive.   Here is what they sound like at night...

It is a cool morning, a light sweater morning.  Our heat has disappeared, at least for now.  We had a wee sprinkle of rain yesterday but it did nothing...our drought conditions continue.
