Love Lane

Love Lane has seen better days to say the least but not missing an opportunity to make a point.
In 1713 it was described as a track (presumably frequented by lovers) beside a lade or water channel known as the frith which drove a mill down at the harbour and cleared it of rubbish and sludge. The seaward end of the lade may have been a natural creek - hence frith (Firth). The name is remembered in nearby Frithside Street.
