Polka dots

This tree has been shedding its spiky seed balls for weeks now. They lie scattered on the clay driveway like polka dots. When it rains, the bare branches are reflected, upside down, in the puddles.
 
The extra shows the tree the right way up. I’m not sure what kind of tree it is, perhaps a liquidambar.
