Greatstone on Sea

A wonderful day cycling on Romney Marsh and along the coast between New Romney and Hythe. A joint favourite ride alongside the Viking Way around the Isle of Thanet.

A very pleasant coffee at the Bucket and Spade cafe in Dymchurch, a favoured place now that the cafe in Donkey Street has closed. Lunch in an isolated area outside Ivychurch and a welcome couple of cups of tea courtesy of the Trangia at Greatstone where this shot was taken. I'd misread the tide tables and was expecting a high tide by the time we arrived here! I was reading the wrong week! No chance of a swim today.

It was breezy on the Marsh, some shelter from a few hedges but not all cycling was into the wind this time. And the last 10 miles, along the coast were turbo charged as the wind was behind us as we sped north along the seawall. The weather was very kind apart from the wind as we had been undecided as whether to make the trip seeing as it was cloudy with spats of rain when we left this morning.

As has become customary at the end of a ride on the Marsh, a pint was enjoyed at the Hopfuzz Brewery at West Hythe.

Surely, some heads should roll as a result of this A Level debacle. The Secretary of State, the Head of the QCA and the Head of Ofqual are all culpable and why has Boris been so quiet after his initial one liner where he said "We have a robust set of results?"
