Art on wheels

Friday

My blips are currently slightly overlapping on the days right now.

Spied this Mondrian on wheels.  The colors and arrow reminded me of the air quality chart of our constantly changing air throughout the day (although subtract blue for green, and thankfully there's no purple on the car which is about the worst air quality imagineable).  The wind was moving the smoke around a lot.  We'd have blue sky for a bit, then acrid smoke.  Tried to have a swim but it was brief, my timing was bad and had to get out and inside when the smoke smell became stronger and my eyes started stinging.

I realize most of the following is meaningless to those that aren't family/friends - so feel free to skip.

The San Mateo Event Center north of us is now an evacuation site, as is Half Moon Bay High School on the coast.  Large animals that have been evacuated are at the Cow Palace in Daly City/SF.

At the 6 pm briefing the news was the CZU fire (this is the one closest to us and Soozaday - she's on the other side of it in Santa Cruz) is 2% contained.  They've asked tourists in the area to leave and to quote the CalFire Unit Chief speaking at the podium:  If you don't live here, don't come here to recreate - we'd love to see you on a different day, just not right now.

Now it is Saturday morning (8/22) and I just watched the 6 a.m. briefing. The CZU fire is now 5% contained, CalFire said the weather has helped in slowing the growth in the northern end in San Mateo County.  They have been able to create a firebreak to the south at Highway 1 and Highway 9 above the UC Santa Cruz campus, they are hoping to create a second line there today to create a firmer toehold.  To the eastern side the fire did make some advancements overnight but they think things are ok, spot fires near Felton.

The SCU fire there have been evacuations near the eastern side of San Jose.

As an aside, I just have to say how disappointed I am that the San Francisco Chronicle continues to keep its paywall up at this critical time.
