A Winter Friend

Dear Diary,

My Chickadees are what I call my winter friends as I rarely see them in the summer but they are beginning to show their sweet little selves now.  They too must sense the change that is coming.  There is a different quality to the light and the cool nighttime temperatures let all the creatures great and small know it is time to prepare.  Our drought has caused some trees to begin the change and to drop leaves.  We did get a brief but heavy downpour yesterday but it was not nearly enough.  It is a foggy, cool morning in Auntie's Tree and this little one knows that summer is winding down.
