Hvitsekkur

After another night at the Borgafjordur campsite, very quiet after the weekend, we decided to go back and stay the night at the little campsite at Lodmundarfjördur. Rather a long way over the crazy passes, but we stopped off to climb an interesting peak we saw on the way. We read the Brief description in the guidebook, but had no map. There were virtually no signs of anyone else on the mountain before us. It was very loose stones, steep snow filled gullies to cross, and incredibly steep. It was also very hot, unbelievably felt like a desert. Then near the top even worse, tiny not loose stones with no grip and very sharp black lava, you could get some tiny hand holds on. Very pleased to be on top, on this very strange looking peak, but wary about the way down, which was really tricky at the top. Before long we were back at the car, and heading over the pass to Lodmundarfjördur. We cooked risotto outside in the sun, we were the only campers there, and opened a bottle of beer from the local Auster brewery which was called Hvitsekkur, just like the mountain we had climbed!
