Fjord life

It was a chilly night, perfectly clear and didn’t really get dark at the tiny and perfect little Lodmundarfjördur campsite. We could enjoy another sunny breakfast outside dressed in shorts and T-shirts. The forecast was in fact to change from 20 deg C to 5 deg over the day, so planned to do a bit of a hike there, then move to our favourite Atlavik campsite in the trees for our last night under canvas.
We drove through quite a deep ford, then set of walking up we thought looked like a straightforward ridge. My first thought were of Munro bagging in Scotland through heather and bilberries, but soon it became deeper with spiky trees, oh why was I wearing shorts! We made for the river bank, then followed an easier way down along wonderful turquoise cascades on soft squashy lichen, moss and heather.
We left Lodmundarfjördur, and I took the blip just as we were leaving, looking back. As we headed over the two steep passes, the weather did change, to cloudy and with a very cold brisk wind. Had another pizza and beer at the new Askur brewery in Egilsstadir, then had a swim in the hot outdoor swimming pool and hot pots before heading for Atlavik campsite.
