Seydisfjördur

Well that was the last night camping. Golly it was cold in the night, and not easy to leave my cosy, warm sleeping bag. We weren’t in any rush to leave Atlavik, as the weather forecast was not so good, but decided to to a walk around the forest and hills behind the campsite at Hallormstadir. There is a hotel there, the carpark was completely empty. My guidebook said take the path with white stakes between the sports ground and the swimming pool. Well there was an empty gravel area and an empty pool filled with some rubbish. The area seems to have seen better in the past.
The walk was nevertheless great, winding up well made paths, through well established trees and pretty harebell filled glades. The top had a great view of the Lake, on soft lichen covered rocks at a waterfall, Lamfoss and a red coloured rock ravine. The walk went a different way down over some moorland with wooden walkways and back to the hotel. We went in to the hotel for a coffee, we had been there 8 years before, it was nice inside, but there were no staff at all around. We shouted hello, used the loos, still no one around, so left again.
In Egilsstadir we did some final shopping, car cleaning, and went to buy some more Hvitsekkur beer bottles to take home. We had a snack at the N1 Station, met another Austrian family that we had met twice before, they were getting the ferry back the next day too.
We were lucky with the weather, although cold, it was sunny going over the pass to Seydisfjördur, and we had some really lovely views. We found our lovely guesthouse, did some local shopping and then had dinner out.
