'Bald' Jay

Not to be confused with 'Blue-Jay'! This Jay is going through a normal 'bald stage' when all of the feathers on her head are dropped nearly simultaneously. And although the other Jays will no doubt poke fun at her and call her 'Baldy', her feathers will all grow back within a week or so. Typical Bluejay behavior and dining habits don't seem to be affected and she is still very much enjoying our feeder's offerings! During August this sight is a fairly common one as far as BlueJays and Cardinals are concerned. Other birds molt as well but not so dramatically!
