Mezzanine

Finding ourselves unexpectedly and, it must be said, most unwillingly, free this afternoon we returned to the church to collect more music and had the opportunity to enter the mezzanine room, with its distinctive window.  This is a moderately-sized room used for meetings and boasts two sections of glass floor over the main entrance. The trail on the floor is temporary - the caretaker was in the process of removing moss and sludge from the flat roof beyond, the filled bags placed on the floor.

So, how did we come to be free? As I said last week, we were expecting the delivery of a new washing machine today, confirmed last night by an email, giving the time of arrival of between 3 and 5 pm, which is the time the church is open. This morning we received a text to say that the delivery would not take place after all, and that they would telephone later - which they did, but only to arrange another date, a week hence. Harsh Words were indeed spoken but only between ourselves, feeling so let down without explanation by a well-respected company with whom we have dealt for many years.
Will we be compensated for the interest-free loan they will have had for a whole month? I doubt it. Or Miss Flum for the use of her machine in the meantime? Of course not.
Watch this space. If a perfect, undamaged washing machine of the model on order is not delivered next *Wednesday between 3 and 5 pm or before, we take our business elsewhere.

*actually it is booked for Tuesday - even more exciting!
