Privet Hawk Moth Caterpillar

We had quite a wet walk today: from Ringstead Bay & the Burning Cliff, around White Nothe, inland to Holworth, across Moign’s Down and back to the coast via Upton.

Ringstead Bay was interesting geologically with a multitude of different rock and soil types to be seen and once we rounded White Nothe and climbed the ladder into the scrubby area we really started to see a diversity of flora. Some plants were completely new to me and others just smaller variants of flora I know well, adapted to a harsher environment.

I was delighted to spot this fat and colourful Privet Hawk Moth caterpillar close to the path. Given he’s not trying to hide himself at all I’m surprised he hadn’t been eaten.

In other news, one of Tony’s closest friends with whom he went to Croatia, has tested positive for Coronavirus. Of course Tony’s informed Tesco he can’t work today and has gone to a test centre himself. His friend Lewis is asymptomatic but they’ve stayed in a hot spot where there was poor social distancing.
