Back to Basics

Back home and back to work today but in the new garden signs of approaching autumn.  Colchicum macrophyllum, relocated a couple of weeks ago as dry bulbs, planted in deep a polystyrene box and quickly into flower after lots of rain here.    The flowers, similar to Colchicum x aggripinum pictured here but about twice the size precede the leaves by many months.  It's the leaves that give it it's name, macrophyllum = big leaves!

A good day back at work although the clouds are gathering over us as redundancies on the railway have already begun.   The new way of operating has been a success but revenue is lower, costs are higher and more than half a seasons income was lost before we began.  No concolation in knowing we are not alone.
