Que Sara Sara

No, this is not an image from ‘Ideal Homes’; it’s my friend and colleague Sara’s living room. I worked there for the afternoon and marvelled at her colour schemes, style and plant life.

Sara is Portuguese so she made excellent coffee and we dined on the Portuguese custard tarts I brought, possibly at more frequent intervals than coffee breaks are usually taken. We also had a very satisfying conversation about Portuguese and Spanish grammar.

We share an admiration for reggaeton and Latin American music in general, as this is popular in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Africa. Sara showed me a recent-ish Ricky Martin video that represents a shift from the typical pop video of beautiful female models glistening next to poolsides, drinking cocktails hyper-enthusiastically and bumping and grinding sweatily under a full moon. That’s all happening but it’s notable that men are shown equally as gratuitously. Of course absolutely no-one in the video comes close to being ugly. However, it’s good to see baby steps away from the objectification of women only and I think we can thank the evolution of Ricky Martin’s comfort with his sexuality.

After work, I cycled to collect some walking shoes from Berry, in anticipation of hiking this weekend. My outdoor gear is 10,000 kilometres away, hopefully not becoming progressively more mouldy in the cupboards.
