Last train of the day rolls into Wittersham Road

It’s difficult to take shots when there’s action as I’m busy with exchanging the token and watching the train for any defects or faults as it goes past so it has to be a hurried long range shot before the action starts.

We’re running a third train over the bank holiday weekend instead of our start up service of just the two. It’s proving popular and well loaded.

A cool autumnal like day at Wittersham Road, a little more of interest today than usual as someone came onto the platform to take photos as the up train came through. And, on a more serious note I had to challenge a couple of people who were walking the tracks between here and Rolvenden.

Give them their due, they apologised and acknowledged they should have spoken to me first. They were looking for family member that they thought was working in the Yard here. I’d already phoned the next station down the line to warn the driver. No harm done.

Even more serious was the report from the driver of the last down train to Bodiam of up to six trespassers on the line at Rother Bridge leaping off the bridge into the river below. The driver had to execute an emergency stop and gave everyone a sound rollicking. More paperwork to fill in and more calling around to inform relevant people.

Then at the end of the day the crossing keeper at Northiam reported an intermittent fault with the gate locks which needed reporting.
