It didn’t amount to anything.....

We’ve had some spectacular atmospherics at times this summer and today was no exception with some very aggressive shower clouds such as these building up all day. There was no jiggery pokery involved in the making of this shot, it’s as it was in the can.

We were caught in a very sharp downpour in Detling in our walk this morning. With the help of our umbrellas and a convenient overhanging bush we kept relatively dry.

Further along on the walk when we turned downhill we were accompanied by a torrent of water. We were walking faster than it eventually coming to the head of the stream as the water continued to make its way downhill.

Only a short distance further on it was dry. No rain had fallen, a stream was almost dry, the sun hot. As we walked along the banks we were amazed by clouds of dragonflies whizzing all about us.

The clouds in today’s blip brewed up while we were having lunch. We thought we were in for a biblical deluge but somehow it missed and slid away to the east.

Later in the afternoon I dodged the showers to go to the allotment to find the brassica cage looking sorry for itself after a battering from the winds. Fixings had snapped and were stuck in the poles. It took a while to make secure.

There were plenty of raspberries and a few beans and I dug the final row of early (!) potatoes planting a few late leeks in their place. I’m was pleased to see new flowers of the runner beans and to hear the gentle hum of bees as they worked their way around the flowers.
