A wander down Wanstead where we came across Winston. The building behind was originally used as a house. The building changed hands a number of times but was purchased by the West Essex Conservative Association in 1925 and used as headquarters of the Conservative group in Wanstead. Winston Churchill was MP for this area from 1924 to 1964, and Churchill was based at the club in the 1930’s.

Churchill's link to the club is remembered by a 1968 bronze bust of his head, designed and sculpted by Luigi Fironi and placed on a cornerstone of the old Waterloo Bridge.

Boundary changes in the 1970’s meant Wanstead was paired with Leyton and then turned Labour. The building is now a restaurant and bar.
