I have just finished reading 'Ducks, Newburyport' after several months. I don't usually recommend books, but this is an exception. A few words of caution - it is long (1000 pages of small close print); there are no chapters, paragraphs or sentences; and it is the thoughts going through the narrators head. The narrative is hard to recognise initially but there is a story that cleverly unfolds and it becomes mesmeric. It is also a devastating critique of the USA today and very contemporary in many ways that were not so evident when it was written a few years back. I also read there other novels whilst reading it but I am very glad I persevered. It is one of the best books I have ever read. Don't be daunted.
