White-winged Black Tern

This rare vagrant, an immature bird, was found yesterday at Echna Bay on Burray so I went along today in the hope of locating it as a species I'd never seen. It was  over the bay fishing and then rested on the shore. This shot is from a good distance so is cropped and a bit fuzzy. Only 10-40 are seen every year in the UK, its usual haunt in places like Russia. The bay must be full of fish as there were loads of shags et, there including red-breasted mergansers (extra). The tern was a nice bird with which to start September.
