Windrush Way, Bourton-on-the-water

The day didn’t start too well with a phone call from my Mum to say that my Dad was in hospital. He always seems to leave it until we are on holiday. Had she not been able to water our tomatoes(as it’s Dad that drives them there) I don’t think she would have mentioned it. But she wanted to know if there was anyone else nearby that could do it!
Dad was being sick on Sunday and then came across all funny so my Mum called my brother who came over and to cut a long story short, they managed to take him to A&E. But of course you can’t go in with him these days, so she just had to go home and wait for news. On Sunday after him being on a drip for hours, he was discharged. But a few hours after being home, he was being sick again, so it was back to hospital for the second time. This time they have done some sort of X-ray and he is awaiting a full body CT scan to see if the cancer has come back. He was given the all clear over 7 years ago, but we are fearing the worst.
Mum wouldn’t hear of us coming home as there is nothing we can do and my brother and his daughter can run Mum around when she needs it, so we headed out for the day.

We went through Moreton-in-the-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold and arrived in Bourton-on-the-Water just before 10:15. It was already quite busy in my eyes but we managed to walk through the village and found the 5th bridge on a public footpath called Windrush Way. Hardly any people made it this far out and it was a lovely little stroll by the river and fields only a few hundred yards away from the hustle of the centre of the village. We managed to book somewhere for lunch and then had another little stroll around the village before settling down on a bench under the willow tree by the war memorial. It was fun to watch the ducks, dogs and children playing in the river and thankfully it kept us away from other people. Lunch was fine and then we came back onsite, went for a walk around Buckland which didn’t take too long, and then settled down for the evening.

Tomorrow we will be back in our comfort zone at Slimbridge.
