Speckled Wood #16

We had an unsuccessful search for a Great Spotted Woodpecker today at Risley Moss. In the past it has been our "go-to" spot to see them, but normally a bit later into the autumn I think. We did actually get a fleeting glimpse of him and could hear him in the distance, but he never came back.
So I was a bit miffed, but on the way back to the car, we saw this speckled wood butterfly which is a nice consolation prize as I've seen them often this summer but not yet blipped one.

The late afternoon sun is now streaming in through the windows, so I might pop outside and do a bit of dead-heading in the garden. Catch you all later.
