If you can't beat them...

Holly (Ilex aquifolium)

No I haven't started preparing for Christmas, although Barton Grange was in the process of putting up its Christmas display when we visited last week (27/8/20).

The weather was good so we set ourselves two targets for the day.   Get the grass cut and the hedge planted.  The grass cutting was easy then we turned to the hedge.   We have decided a Common Holly hedge is the best thing for the bottom of the garden next to the road.  To this end we had bought a couple of dozen young hedging plants.

I don't know if it was accident or design but they supplied a more or less 50:50 split male plants and female.  So we planted them alternately which we hope will ensure good berrying in the years to come.  As very young plants I was very surprised to see them berrying as prolifically as this one.
