Cowboy Killers Koyaanisqatsi

Cowboy Killers 'Koyaanisqatsi' (Words of Warning, 1989)

Of the many bands which Norrie introduced me to through his mix tapes from his, even then, seemingly endless well of punk, Cowboy Killers were in the top three.

Cowboy Killers are the Welsh Dead Kennedys; manic hardcore punk that is properly fast, but not blasting, and the vocals, from the harmonies to Beddis' spoken word parts definitely have a healthy dose of DKs in their DNA (and Norrie may have taken a little influence from Beddis when perfecting his sarcastic snarl!)

The guitars also have East Bay Ray's trademark surf rock feel although the Cowboy Killers are definitely a number of rungs above a tribute act. After all, there's absolutely nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve if you're this good at it.

'Koyaanisqatsi' is an excellent record filled with song after song of melodic yet raging tunes. Highly recommended, as is their follow up 'Press and Run Like Hell'.

I really wish I had seen these guys live, but alas it was not to be.

Peace
