Rodents rule

Zzzzzzz

Last night’s tent experiment was not successful for the following reasons:
- Juno wanted into the tent, then heard a noise and wanted out (unzip, zip, unzip, zip)
- rain created an annoying drip from the gutter so we had to move some things around so we couldn’t hear it (unzip, zip, unzip, zip)
- Juno wanted into the tent, then heard a cat miaow and wanted out (unzip, zip, unzip, zip)
- planes were quite noisy when trying to sleep in a tent in the city
- Juno wanted into the tent, then heard a noise and wanted out (unzip, zip, unzip, zip)
- neighbours left their kitchen lights on so it wasn’t dark
- various boilers were quite noisy
- when nextdoor upstairs flushed the loo, it sounded like Niagara
- Juno wanted into the tent, then heard a noise and wanted out (unzip, zip, unzip, zip)
- someone decided to ride their motorbike very loudly around the block again and again
- Fred gave up and went indoors
- 3am: a party started somewhere and I hear “we are family....”
- Juno wanted into the tent and he settled down (unzip, zip)
- 5.30am: squirrels woke and seemed to enjoy running noisily you and down the drainpipe
- 5.45am: blackbird woke with a nice song
- 6am: upstairs neighbours woke and were having some sort of enthusiastic game with their toddler that involved shouting “Yay!” a lot
- 8.30am: a visiting cat started playing with the guy ropes

Phew. The good news is that the flask of tea was piping hot at 8.30. After I chased away the cat, I had a cuppa in the tent in the sun.

Indoors, Fred was livid having been awoken by impact noise at 5am for the fourth day running. This soured the mood of the day, but we start this night hopeful. Fred’s in the tent and I’m indoors with Juno. With the cat not wanting in and out, Fred might get a better night’s sleep. Earlier, I suggested that we build a human hutch and Fred has found something that could work - a kind of wooden temporary structure. We might give it a go.

We had good points to the day:
- my first chips and beans at the local caff
- a visit to Brockwell Park’s walled garden and a brief walk through the Extinction Rebellion campsite (they’re using the park as a base when protesting at Westminster), which looked meticulously clean and organised

It’s West Norwood Feast tomorrow so an early start for me so I’m on hand to welcome traders first thing.
