Raised bed vegetable patch

I now have a vegetable patch in my 'new' garden. Paddy planted it with squash this morning. This is another milestone in the great garden makeover, yet there is still quite some way to go before it will be finished. Most of the work today focussed on preparing the ground for the steps up to the lawn (currently a big expanse of soil, a portion of which can be seen to the right of this shot).

It's interesting to compare this blip with that of 24th May. There really has been quite a lot of garden progress over recent weeks.

There were five of us in/around the house most of today: me, Mr hazelh, Mummy hazelh, Paddy and Caitlin. Since I was in charge of catering, I spent quite a lot of time in the kitchen. I served several rounds of tea/coffee and scones, made homegrown parsnip soup and sandwiches for lunch, and cooked a Sunday dinner of roast ham with cabbage and cashew nut bake for our evening meal.

We were actually meant to go out for a curry with Katharine and Jack tonight, but were forced to cancel. The problem was that Jack met Larry for lunch last week, and Larry has just heard that the man who fitted his boiler a few days ago has contracted Covid-19. None of us want to risk catching coronavirus from Jack, especially not 80 year-old Mummy hazelh.

For entertainment today I continued the work on my secret recreational project, watched the recording of the recent Edinburgh book festival interview with Brit Bennett, won a game of Carcassonne against Mr hazelh, and lost at Catan to (sneaky) Caitlin.

Exercise today: none.
