"Two cows and an ex-husband"

According to my ex-husband the most exciting things I saw today were two cows and him.  He could have been miffed by how excited I was to see the two cows, but he took it in his stride.  It's probably why we are such good friends nearly 40 years after we parted company.

We met for the first time since lockdown for a walk through Burnham Beeches, which is a 375 hectare National Nature Reserve in the Chilterns, rather surprisingly owned by the City of London Corporation.  It is an ancient woodland full of beech and oak trees, some of them many hundreds of years old.  There are undulating paths and streams and it looked wonderful today in the unexpected 25ºC sunshine.

The two cows are part of the nature conservation scheme.  It's their job to eat the undergrowth.  This afternoon they were having a break, snoozing in the sunshine in a bed of purple flowering heather.
