A Bit of Culture

After 6 months of no U3A, Norfolk Wildlife Trust or Arts Society talks or trips to the theatre or exhibitions, it was brilliant to meet G & M at the Sainsbury's Centre in Norwich to visit the Art Deco by the Sea exhibition which took a look at British coastal culture between the World Wars. I also went to Art Nouveau: The Nature of Dreams exhibition (see Extra) which was small but had some lovely items of jewellery and ceramics and included a bit of William Morris and Gaudi which I love. I like both styles, but if pushed would choose Art Nouveau as it's based on nature and easier on the eye.

Day 179 / Full Day 171 of Lockdown / Day 69 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 14 to 41,608 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 2,919 and 837 patients in hospital. Globally cases to date passed 28m, up 1m in 3 days. New daily cases are still rising in Spain - 10,764 and France - 9,843. Germany has controlled their cases that started rising at the same time. Portugal and Hungary are added to England's quarantine list (from 4am Sat), but Sweden to the safe list. Scotland also limits social gatherings to a max of 6 people (kids under 12 not counting), but sensibly only from 2 households and even more sensibly it applies immediately even though it comes into force on Mon. Landlords are reportedly owned £437m, evictions will restart on 21/9 with increased notice of 6 months, exemption if in lockdown and a xmas truce. The number of people waiting for operations has soared, with those waiting a year increasing from 2,000 before the pandemic to 83,000 and 2m waiting more than 18 weeks.
