Summery Southbourne

Arranged to meet J and R at 10:30. We planned going with their son-in-law’s parents up to Hengistbury Head

Stopped by M’s (Hungarian baker) to collect a sourdough. J asked me to get 24 ‘pogácsa’ (mini cheese scones). Large queue outside!

Called J to say we were on the way. She had just been told the hotel had made an error and they had to check out by 11 (they were due to stay till tomorrow). She was shocked and very upset of course. The hotel found another room in the area but she was not prepared to pack and unpack for the sake of one more night. Such a pity as messed up their ‘big wedding anniversary’ stay. And tomorrow they were meeting up with other friends they hadn’t seen for ages.

So instead we went for a long walk along the cliff at Southbourne. Had a drink at Caffe Riva. Said our goodbyes. Wonder when we next see them (with Covid on the rise).We returned home as I had faded in the heat
