If you can't beat them...

Consall Forge Station

For a good part of the Froghall branch of the Caldon Canal the Churnet Valley Railway runs alongside.  Originally a line from North Rode to Macclesfield the last section closed in 1988.   A section was purchased by enthusiasts and finally ran its first steam train in 1996. The blip shows the "platform" from a boaters eye view.

The day was very pleasant and the cruising a bit easier than the Leek branch.  The canal was wider, afterall it was built for working boats rather than as a feeder for water.  At one point we passed a 5 bay Lime Kiln.  This must have been quite a sight in its heyday, with boats arriving with Limestone and departing with the lime and all the bays burning.  Oh to be able to time travel.
