Anderton Boat Lift

Beautiful weather but a disappointing day.  We had a passage down on to the River Weaver booked for the afternoon but the lift was broken so we had to wait for news of how the repairs were going.  They didn't hold out much hope for the following morning so with thunder storms forecast we sadly decided to cancel the booking.  WE had been on the Weaver before but this was going to be Kat and Grieg's first trip on the lift and on a river.

The blip is of the lift taken from where a boat would wait to enter the lift.  What cant be seen are two large caissons capable of taking two 70 foot narrowboats in each.  One caisson if going up as the other goes down.  This means the two are fairly equally balanced and the energy required to operate the lift greatly reduced.
