Feeding Time

There is a hedge of zinnias at the nearby community garden, and this skipper explored every flower, but seemed to prefer the white ones.. He fed at each of those yellow parts, sucking deep into the base before going on to the next one. I followed him from blossom to blossom for awhile, fascinated to be so close to this little miracle.

Yes, we were outside. The air was clear all day and we took a neighborhood walk. Turns out I was inside most of the day, canning tomato sauce. We bought a very ripe flat yesterday at the market and they weren't going to wait around for much longer, so clear skies or not, I had a job to do.
